Leiviska and Allen Take Podium Spots at Shortened WACO, Young Finishes Tied for Fifth
The Waco Annual Charity Open Presented by Prodigy was shortened from three rounds to two because of coronavirus concerns, but that did limit the action. Both Cale Leiviska and Catrina Allen made moves into the top-3 of their respective divisions at the second Disc Golf Pro Tour Stop.
Leiviska was positioned on the chase card after a solid first round in which he birdied four out of his last six holes to finish 7-under par. He improved on that by two strokes in the second round.
He again favored the back nine, going on a seven hole birdie streak between 10 and 16. His near bogey-free 9-under gave him a 16-under 112 for the tournament and moved him up two spots into solo third. Kevin Jones secured a top-20 finish with his 11-under 117 and tied for the lead in parked percentage.
Allen also started her second round on the chase card and made a three stroke improvement from day one. That improvement for her second round boosted her up four spots into a tie for third. Allen has yet to finish outside of the top-5 in her events so far this year.
Heather Young was playing in just her second DGPT event and has now made the lead card in each of them. The even-keeled teen used a steady game plan to attack The bEast and landed in a tie for second to start the second round. Though she struggled at times, she fought back to drain a circle's edge putt on the final hole to keep herself in a tie for fifth.
The Disc Golf Pro Tour along with the National Tour will now go on hiatus at least through April. For updates, check in with the PDGA to stay informed moving forward.
Chris Dickerson played in the Golden Horseshoe Open ahead of the Virginia Team Invitational in Montross. He won the one round event with a 1060-rated 10-under par 55. The one stroke win marked his sixth in a row. John Biscoe ran the event and topped the Pro Masters 50+ field.
Ryan Dickson kept his winning streak alive, too, running it up to four. He took down the 32 be-low gap in Ukiah, Calif. He posted the hot score by six throws in round one and wrapped up the victory in round two to total a 15-under 93 and win by five.
Dutch Napier collected his 50th career win in Brownsville, Ky., at Eco. Napier was solid from start to finish and won by seven strokes. He shot the low score in each round, racking up six throws after just one round. He totaled a 23-under 85.
Ron Turner earned a win at the Flying Saucers in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. He won by four, picking up two strokes in each round.
Billy Ray Osborn collected a win at 11th Annual Gem City Challenge. He battled tough weather conditions to come out on top of the Pro Masters 55+ division. Adam Osborn finished in a ninth place tie in Intermediate.
Jeremiah Ray added a win at the Carrollton Disc Golf Club Bag Tag Finale, advancing all the way through the bracket-style competition for the crown.
