Allen, Jones, Dickerson Formidable in DGPT Restart, Colglazier And Leiviska Nab Wins

The Disc Golf Pro Tour returned with the Dynamic Discs Open in Emporia, Kan., where Catrina Allen earned a podium spot and Kevin Jones and Chris Dickerson placed themselves firmly in the top-10.

Allen battled back from a tie for seventh after the first round to climb four spots in round two. She was one of only four players in the FPO field to shoot under par on the day. During the third round, the notorious Kansas winds picked up, and Allen was able to manage them well to finish in a tie for third. She had the lowest OB rate in the field and also shared the lead in fairway hits at 77 percent during the blustery final round.

Jones started his tournament with 1061 and 1071-rated rounds to find himself on the lead card for both the second and third rounds. He tossed a 10-under par 55 during the second round and was only one of four MPO competitors to hit double digits under par for a single round for the whole tournament. He finished in a sixth place tie.

Just behind him in a tie for eighth was Dickerson who saved his best round for last in the toughest conditions. His 4-under 61 was tied for the fourth best score of the day and helped him climb two spots on the leaderboard to wrap up his DGPT season in solid fashion. Luke Humphries added a top-25 finish, as well.

Back in his home state of Alabama, Cameron Colglazier won the Magic City Mega Bowl in Birmingham. It marks his second win in a row and fourth on the season. He was tied for the lead after round one and was able to stretch it out in round two. He then had to stave off a furious comeback in the third round to claim the title in a playoff.Β

Matt Orum was just one stroke shy of making it a three-way playoff, finishing in third, while Michael Gibney was two back of the action, finishing in fourth. Will Schusterick vaulted himself into a fifth place tie with the hot score on the final day, and Harper Thompson tied for seventh. Tray Desnoyer finished third in the MP40+ division.

Cale Leiviska also picked up a win at the Iron Range Classic in Buhl, Minn. He erased a one throw deficit after the first round to come back and win it by the same margin after two rounds.

Allen, Jones, Orum, and Humphries will join Leiviska this weekend in Clearwater, Minn., for The Preserve Championship. Leiviska will get to help host theΒ inaugural installment of the DGPT event on a course he has worked hard to build just this year. The newest layout has been dubbed "The Black Bear," and will test some of the disc golf's best.
