Prodigy Disc at 10 - A Decade of Innovation and Excellence
Ten years ago in July 2013, our original F Series fairway drivers were approved by the PDGA, giving Prodigy Disc a full lineup of premium disc golf discs that would go on to fill the bags of Major champions.
We’ve since continued to innovate, never settling for good enough. There have been mold tweaks, new models, collaborations, and plastic experiments, always with the aim to create the highest quality discs and cater to what our professional players and avid fans look for.
Know When To Change
As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we’ve released a full update to our flight numbers for the Prodigy lineup. Flight numbers are a system used industry-wide to help explain how a disc should be expected to fly. The four flight numbers are always presented in order and show Speed, Glide, Turn, and Fade.
With changes to production methods, plastic blends, and other factors, Seppo Paju spearheaded an in-depth review of the listed flight numbers for all of our discs. He found over time that between advancements in disc golf manufacturing and changes in our offering, the numbers weren’t adding up.
“There were two big factors in wanting to update our flight numbers,” said Seppo. “First, since we originally assigned flight numbers we have also released new disc categories like the FX, H, and A Series discs. If those had been around 10 years ago then we may have assigned different flight numbers to other series when comparing how each disc flew side-by-side.
“Second, we are always thinking about players, and we want them to have the best information about our equipment possible. The new numbers better align with other disc golf manufacturers in the market, so when players are trying to find a specific flight pattern it will now be easier to compare to other disc models.”
Seppo personally retested the full Prodigy lineup for the flight number update. Some updates were made in part to better solidify and differentiate our own lineup, such as standardizing the speed of every disc in each series. Some were made to be more accurate based on the rim shape and dimensions, like the F Series moving up to an 8 Speed from a 7 Speed.

When we debuted our new stock stamps as part of the overall Prodigy brand refresh we also began including the updated flight numbers on the discs. Other naming and design areas that have been updated include consolidating our plastic names and removing “V2” from any disc molds. An example of plastics being consolidated is replacing 350G with 300 Firm to better fit alongside 300 and 300 Soft.
As part of our ongoing 10 year anniversary celebration, we are also introducing the inaugural Prodigy Day, Thursday July 27. Prodigy Day will feature the release of exclusive stamps, new products, and plenty of deals on our entire disc and bag offering.
