Competitors descended upon Winthrop Gold for the United States Disc Golf Championship — the year’s final Major and among the most revered tournaments in the sport — in its 20th year. There, Chris Dickerson continued his strong 2018 campaign with a top-10 finish.

He launched an 8-under par 59, a 1059-rated effort, in the final round to lock down 10th with a 23-under par 245 over four rounds. Dickerson’s finish inside the top-10 means he automatically qualifies for next year’s USDGC.

Paul Ulibarri got off to a hot start at the Rock Hill, S.C., event and eventually finished 13th with a 19-under 249. Ulibarri started the tournament with ratings of 1053 and 1054 in the first two rounds, which landed him on the lead card for round three.

With the cameras on him, he made a splash by acing the infamous island hole 17 with a hyzer forehand shot that rang chains before crashing into the right side of the basket to stay in.

Seppo Paju’s 14-under 254 landed him in a tie for 15th place. Paju’s highlight came in a 1067-rated third round, in which he tamed the rope-lined fairways for a bogey-free 10-under  57.

Matt Orum also finished inside the top-20, moving up six spots in the final day after moving up 20 the day before. He shot a 13-under par 255 total and tied for 18th.

Jacob Henson returned to collegiate action after winning a collegiate national title with Mississippi State earlier this year. Henson and the Bulldogs won the Dean’s Cup, which takes place during USDGC action.

Nine Others Collect Wins

Cale Leiviska got a convincing win at The Battle at Buffalo Ridge in Worthington, Minn., for his second win in a row. Leiviska topped the field in all three rounds to shoot a 21-under par 171 and win by seven strokes.

Colin Forehand took the win in Dothan, Ala., at the National Peanut Festival Disc Golf Classic. He started the two-round event with a three stroke lead after round one and doubled it in the final round. He finished with a 12-under 96.

Dylan Holt’s 6-under 102 was good enough to hold down second place, and Matt Versola tied for fifth with a 4-under 104.

Christopher Collette’s first win of the year came at the 2018 Borderland Fall Finale in North Easton, Mass. After getting out to a one-stroke lead in the first round, Collette blazed through the second round with a 1050-rated round. The hot final round propelled him to a 22-under 98 and a nine stroke margin. Cooper Legee finished tied for second, shooting a 13-under 107.

Sam Lee had a closer call in Ashland, Ky., at the Oil City Classic. He jumped out to a first round lead and held on for the win in round two with a 10-under par 107 total. Dutch Napier returned from the USDGC to take a win in Kentucky, too, winning the Davis County Open in Owensboro. Bryton Napier took the win in the Recreational Division.

Cameron Messerschmidt won the C Town Throw Down in Columbus, Miss. Ben Lewis won the 6th Annual Deaf Midwest Open where Jakey Lingle finished third. Patrick Christie and Kenny Berra teamed up to win Northshore Doubles.
