Article by Idris Garcia
Among the 280 competitors at this year’s PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships will be Chris Dickerson and Matt Orum, both of whom begin their journey in Jeffersonville, Vt., with wins under their belt.
Matt Orum made his way north early, stopping at the Greater Hartford Disc Golf Open in Manchester, Conn., for the three-round A-Tier. Orum jumped into the lead with a 1073-rated second round and held on to win with a 31-under par 182.
Cameron Colglazier was right in the mix, posting the top score in the final round to finish in second, just two strokes behind Orum. Colglazier also came out of the gate strong to grab a share of the lead after round one. Nicholas Masters finished in a tie for 10th with a 9-under par 204.
For Dickerson, the Secret City Classic in Oak Ridge, Tenn. marked his 23rd win of the season. He started his tournament by shooting a 24-under par on 27 holes to net a 1062-rated round. He threw the hot score in round two to finish the job at a 43-under par 139 total.
Dickerson, Orum, and Masters will all compete for the world title at Smuggler’s Notch this weekend along with an abundance of teammates. Keep up with results and ratings and live scores throughout the week. The tournament will run from today through Sunday, September 9.
Daniel Polk picked up his second win in a row in dramatic fashion. Tied at 17-under par 97 after two rounds at the Mankato Open in Mankato Minn., Polk headed into a playoff with one other person and came out the victor after three holes.
Ben Kroll also found himself playing off for the win at the 24th Northwoods Open in Lac du Flambeau, Wisc., and was able to dispatch the competition in one hole. Kroll totaled a 17-under par 145.
Cody Bradshaw outlasted teammate Sam Shiley at the West Virginia Open in Paw Paw, W.V., over three rounds and a final nine. Bradshaw totaled a 43-under par 217 and Shiley was two strokes back. The pair traded hot rounds back and forth, starting with Shiley in round one and ending with Bradshaw in the final nine.
Gannon Buhr continues to impress with another win in Advanced. Buhr’s triumph at the Coca-Cola Classic is his third in a row and second by a margin of five strokes. His 1030-rated opening round set the tone for a dominant day out on the course.
