Weekend Round-Up: Orum, Osborns Continue Impressive Spring Runs

Article by Idris Garcia

Matt Orum isn’t scheduled to appear on tour until the summer but continues to rack up top-3 finishes in his first spring under Prodigy, while the father-son tandem of Billy Ray and Adam Osborn have proven a formidable force in the amateur ranks.

Orum won the 20th Annual Acadiana Disc Golf Association Spring Fling in Lafayette, La., for his second PDGA sanctioned win to go along with singles and doubles titles in Southern Nationals events. He has yet to finish outside of third in 2018, including three A-Tier events.

The Osborns have also shined at A-Tiers, following up wins at The Amateur Championships at Bowling Green with top finishes at The 5th Annual Illinois Amateur Championship in Pekin, Ill. It was Billy Ray Osborne’s sixth win of the year.

He shot a 1-under par 167 over three rounds to win Amateur Masters 40+ by one throw as the only competitor in the division who was under par.

Adam Osborn ran away with the Recreational Division, shooting a 3-over par 200 to win by ten. It was his second win—both A-Tiers—in three tournaments this year. He saved his best for last, with his highest ratings coming in the third round and final nine.

Colin Forehand took the win at the Freedom Open in Valdosta, Ga., with a 17-under par 116. He scorched the competition in the second round, tossing the hot round by six strokes. The 1041-rated effort boosted him to the eight stoke victory.

Nick Snelling had a tougher road, winning a three-way playoff at the 6th Annual Pearl City Classic in Muscatine, Iowa. Snelling was five strokes out of the lead to start the second round, but was able to jump up from fifth into a tie for first with a 6-over par 114 total. It was his third year in a row to win the event.

Scott Snow picked up a playoff win in the Advanced Division at The Pollination in Pine, Colo. His 3-over par 84 in the one round event tied him with one other competitor. The win in extra holes at the well-known Bucksnort Disc Golf Course marks his first of the year.

Sean Tapley also got an Advanced win at the ODDS #4: Battle in the Blue Ridge in North Garden, Va., with a 3-over par 116. His hot score in round two was enough to shave off a five stroke deficit on the way to a one stroke win. Sam Shiley tied for third in Open Men, and Cody Bradshaw finished fifth.

Team Prodigy also had success in unsanctioned action over the weekend. Tommy Locke won the MDS at Pleasant Lake with Daniel Polk and Mitch Privette coming in second and third, respectively. Patrick Christie and Kenny Berra teamed up to take down the Quarry Park Northshore Doubles. Jacob Henson won the Tri State Mini Tournament, with Tray Desnoyer coming in second.
