Weekend Roundup: Allen Becomes 4-Time GBO Champ, Leiviska Climbs into MPO Top-5

WEEKEND ROUNDUP: ALLEN BECOMES 4-TIME GBO CHAMP, LEIVISKA CLIMBS INTO MPO TOP-5

Article by Idris Garcia

Catrina Allen’s last three events have been decided on the tournament’s final hole, and this time, she came out on top.

Allen conquered the Kansas wind to secure her fourth Glass Blown Open title and first National Tour win of the season with a birdie, as four rounds and four days culminated in one last trip to Emporia Country Club’s treacherous 413-foot 18th hole.

With a water hazard leading to an OB-laden, sloped green, she ripped a D2 toward the basket and watched the wind bounce it up and down before landing safely. She stepped confidently to her lie and jammed the putt into the elevated basket’s left side, raising her arm in triumph after a grueling battle.

Allen finished with a 1-under par 255 total in the blustery conditions. She paced the field in birdie percentage, fairway hits, circle 1 in regulation and circle 2 in regulation, while finishing second in parked percentage. Allen has now finished first or second in eight of nine events, winning four of them with her lowest finish being fourth.

In Open Men, Cale Leiviska climbed two spots on the final day to finish in a tie for fifth. Leiviska favored the odd rounds, tossing matching 8-under 57’s in rounds one and three. His 1067-rated third round effort was the only bogey-free round for the day. He finished with a 9-under 251 for the tournament.

Chris Dickerson added a top-10 finish, landing in eight place with a 7-under 253. This was his first trip to GBO and his first National Tour event of the season. Kevin Jones also fought the elements for a 2-under 258 and a tie for 12th.

Leiviska, Dickerson and Jones were three of just 13 men’s players to finish the event under par, while Allen was the only women’s player to do so.

Robinson’s Run Continues in Georgia, Colglazier Wins from Chase Card

Ezra Robinson certainly has Georgia on his mind, running his home state win streak to five at the Springtime Classic at Little Mulberry park. Robinson fired the hot round out of the gate and did the same in the second round to win by two. He racked up a 15-under 105 in the process, and it was his second win in a row.

Cameron Colglazier took the win in Milton, Fla., at The Panhandle Open 3. His first round put him three strokes off the lead on the chase card but that did little to stop him. Colglazier launched a career-high 1088-rated second round to gobble up seven strokes. He finished with a 15-under 97 over two rounds.

Behind him was Michael Gibney, who led after a solid first round. The fellow Alabama pro averaged 34 points above his rating and totaled an 11-under 101. Matt Orum and Colin Forehand finished fifth, Logan Weiss sixth, and Colin Forehand seventh.

Mike Brown picked up a five stroke win with a 2-under 110 at the event.

Nick Snelling’s win at the Pearl City Classic marked his fourth straight win at the Muscatine, Iowa, event and his first of the year. Snelling had to cover four strokes after round one. He did that and more to finish with a 4-under 107 and win by three.

Dutch Napier also collected a win in Palmyra, Ind., at the Buffalo Trace Open. Napier put together a pair of hot rounds to come out on top with a 13-under 111.

A few more team members tabbed wins over the weekend. Michael Habets got a narrow, one stroke win at Welcome to the Jungle IV in Fitchburg, Mass., tossing the hot score in round one. John Biscoe took the win at Battle in the Blue Ridge in Charlottesville, Va., for his second in a row in the Pro Masters 50+ division. Brandon Brown got second in Open.

Billy Ray Osborn won Amateur Masters 50+ at the 6th Annual Illinois Amateur Championships in North Pekin, Ill., where his son Adam took fourth in Intermediate. In unsanctioned action, Brandon Robertson and Bobby Jones won the Appalachian State Disc Golf Tournament and Double the Fun, respectively.
