It was tight at the top for both Open Men and Open Women at the Jonesboro Open, the latest Disc Golf Pro Tour event in Arkansas. For Catrina Allen, it was down to the wire as the champion was decided on the last hole.
Allen battled with several competitors on the lead card all weekend long. She paced the field in birdie percentage and parked percentage while finishing top-3 in circle 1 in regulation and circle 2 in regulation. She averaged over 990-rated golf for three rounds, hitting the 1000-rated mark in round two. Allen’s 16-under 182 total was good for second by a mere stroke.
In Open Men, Kevin Jones’ 1065-rated 11-under 53 first round placed him squarely in the mix from the start. He finished the round with no bogeys and an eagle. Chris Dickerson tied the hot score in the second round to join Jones on the final round lead card. Both were tied and just two strokes off the lead.
Dickerson tossed a bogey-free 8-under 56 to keep his spot on the podium and finish third with a 22-under 170. Jones had an rocky round, but still held on for an eighth place finish. Matt Orum hopped into the top-10 on the final day with a ninth place finish. Cale Leiviska and Will Schusterick tied for 20th and 25th, respectively.
Versola Repeats at Eagle Eye, Several Others Nab Wins
Matt Versola is now the two-time defending champion of the Eagle Eye Open in Alpharetta, Ga. Versola laid down the top score in round one and didn’t look back. He posted a 20-under 166 over three rounds for the wire-to-wire win. Austin Lytle finished two strokes back in second, and Alden Harris finished fifth.
Tanner Girouard got his fourth win of the year in Junction, Texas at BATADGA Tour Stop #3. He came back from a one stroke deficit to shoot the hot round and win by two. He finished with a 5-under 107 to edge Street Team member G.T. Hancock.
Ben Page impressed in Florence, Ala., winning the 36th Annual Spring Fling-It by five. He tossed a 24-under 175 over three rounds. His highlight came in a 1032-rated second which paced the field by a whopping six strokes.
Manabu Kajiyama took the 17th Saga Open crown in Kanzaki, Saga, Japan. Hyundo Jang finished 8th and Shinah Kim took third in Open Women.
Bobby Jones was in a tighter race in Pro Masters 40+ at the ROC City Open in Rochester, N.Y. Jones took the lead in the first round but was being chased down in round two. Tied on the tee of the final hole, Jones let his 400 M1 fly and it found chains. He ultimately won by one.
Al Kennon also took a Pro Masters 40+ win at The Crusade for his fourth win in a row. John Biscoe grabbed a win in Pro Masters 50+ at the Winchester GHO in Winchester, Va., where Sam Shiley tied for third in Open.
Gannon Buhr had a three stroke win in Advanced at the Pickard Pectacular 2019 in Indianola, Iowa. Buhr topped the 1000 mark with his hot second round to shoot a 16-under 112.
